Typhoon “Tino” left a trail of devastation across Negros Occidental’s agricultural sector, with total damages amounting to P35,004,157.43, data from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) as of yesterday showed.
The OPA report shows that crop losses reached P28.53 million, while fisheries sustained P6.47 million in damages.
Rice production bore the brunt of the storm’s impact, with 13 local government units (LGUs) and 89 barangays affected.
A total of 1,145 rice farmers lost crops covering 956.83 hectares, resulting in an estimated damage of P24.85 million.
Corn farms also suffered, with 22 farmers affected in four barangays across several LGUs, recording P387,682.26 in damages over 12.20 hectares of land.
High-value crops such as vegetables and fruits reported P3.29 million in damages, affecting 62 farmers and 27.35 hectares in six barangays across two LGUs.
Meanwhile, the fisheries sector recorded losses from two LGUs and two barangays, where seven fisherfolk were affected.
