Ash emissions were reported at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said yesterday afternoon.
Phivolcs said the emission occurred from 12:37 p.m. to 12:57 p.m. yesterday.
“This event generated grayish plumes that rose up to 300 meters above the crater before drifting to the general west as recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory – Canlaon City,” Phivolcs said.
Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, indicating increased unrest.
In its monitoring bulletin, the Phivolcs said four volcanic earthquakes were recorded at Kanlaon Volcano from 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, to 12:00 midnight yesterday.
During this period, a weak emission of plume reaching up to 200 meters was observed from the volcano, drifting west.
A total of 877 tons of sulfur dioxide gases were released from the volcano on Wednesday, according to the Phivolcs.
The volcano edifice remained inflated.
Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur at Kanlaon.
Under Alert Level 2, entry into the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone and the flying of any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited. (GMA Integrated News)
