The Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) said the recently concluded MassKara Festival 2025 was peaceful and orderly, highlighting another milestone in Bacolod City’s world-renowned celebration of culture, resilience and unity.
PRO-NIR reported that no major untoward incidents occurred during the celebration from October 1 to 19.
Authorities attributed this to the strong police visibility, proactive law enforcement and active cooperation of the public, which ensured that all events — from the street dance competitions to the Electric MassKara Parade — proceeded safely and smoothly.
The regional police office implemented a comprehensive security and public safety plan to ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration throughout the festival’s duration.
The security operations included augmentation forces from PRO in Western Visayas, PRO-NIR, the Siquijor Police Provincial Office, and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, along with force multipliers, local government units and partner agencies.
The joint effort focused on maintaining peace and order, managing large crowds, and providing immediate assistance to thousands of festivalgoers who flocked to Bacolod for the annual “festival of smiles.”
Police personnel were also strategically deployed to major festival sites, including the Lacson Tourism Strip, the Bacolod City Government Center, and the Paglaum Sports Complex, as well as in transport terminals and tourist hubs, to ensure quick response to any security or emergency situation.
Regular foot and mobile patrols, traffic management and anti-criminality operations were likewise conducted across the city.
In line with the Philippine National Police’s ongoing anti-illegal drug campaign, the City Drug Enforcement Unit and Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) intelligence operatives conducted continuous buy-bust operations before and during the festival period.
Meanwhile, PRO-NIR Director Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay commended BCPO Director Colonel Joeresty Coronica, BCPO personnel, and all deployed officers for their dedication, professionalism and tireless service, ensuring the safety of both locals and tourists during the festival’s highlights.
“The peaceful and successful celebration of the MassKara Festival 2025 stands as a testament to the strong partnership between the police and the community,” Ibay said.
“Through our collective effort, we ensured that everyone experienced the festivities in a safe, secure and enjoyable environment,” he added.
Ibay also extended his gratitude to the Bacolod City government, partner agencies, and the community for their cooperation and vigilance, which significantly contributed to the festival’s success./CJ, WDJ
