The Terrafirma Dyip pulled off an impressive 97-91 win over the NLEX Road Warriors for their first win of the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup on Sunday, October 12, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The result ended an 11-game losing streak for the Dyip, and handed new head coach Ronald Tubid a landmark victory.

Rookie John Bravo led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds.

“‘Yung mga bata are so excited. They know na kaya nila. Sabi naming mga coaches … although we are undersized, as long as we compete may tsansa tayong manalo,” said Tubid.

Jerrick Ahanmisi added 14 points, including a layup that gave Terrafirma some breathing room, 95-91, in the closing stretch.

Bravo then knocked down the insurance free throws in the final 12 seconds to seal the win for Terrafirma.

Paolo Hernandez notched 13 points, seven rebounds and six steals, Didat Hanapi also netted 13 points, Sangalang bucked foul trouble to finish with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Mark Nonoy only had six points but issued 13 assists on top of seven boards.

It was a letdown for the Road Warriors, who were hoping to build on an upset of defending All-Filipino champion San Miguel Beermen.

Instead, they dropped to 1-1 as they continue to play without star point guard Robert Bolick. (ABS-CBN News)
