A 26-year-old former security guard, wanted for multiple counts of rape, was arrested in a manhunt operation in Dumaguete City on Saturday, October 4.
The suspect (name withheld), a resident of Negros Oriental’s Bayawan City, was taken into custody by virtue of an arrest warrant for three counts of rape, with no bail recommended.
He was accused of allegedly raping the daughter of an apartment caretaker in Dumaguete, police said.
He allegedly threatened to kill the victim should she report the assaults to authorities.
According to the Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), the arrested individual was listed as the eighth most wanted person in the region.
PRO-NIR Director Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay lauded the successful arrest, calling it a demonstration of the police force’s continued commitment to ensuring that fugitives are brought to justice.
“This exemplifies our steadfast commitment to uphold justice and ensure that offenders are made accountable for their actions,” Ibay said.
He also reminded the public that vigilance and cooperation are crucial in maintaining community safety, urging residents to remain proactive and report any suspicious or unlawful activities to the nearest police station./CJ, WDJ
