The rich culture and products of Negros will once again take center stage as the 39th Negros Trade Fair opens today at the SMX Convention Center Aura in Taguig City.
The weeklong fair runs until September 28 and is recognized as the longest-running provincial trade fair outside Negros Occidental.
Themed “Himbon,” a Hiligaynon term which means “to gather,” the trade fair will feature 139 exhibitors offering “the best of Negros in food, fashion, crafts, and more.”
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the event will highlight the best of Negros, featuring culinary delights, furniture, home décor, and local crafts that reflect the province’s heritage and creativity.
“We will showcase Negrense culinary, furniture, home decors, the usual products that Negros produces,” Lacson said, as he invited Negrenses living in Metro Manila to support the fair.
He added that exhibitors in Negros Oriental will also participate this year, bringing their own line of furniture and crafts to complement the display.
The fair, which began in 1985, is organized annually by the Association of Negros Producers, Inc. in partnership with the provincial government.
It has since grown into a premier platform for small and medium enterprises to reach a wider market and to strengthen the identity of Negrense products on the national and global scene.
Visitors can purchase artisanal products and crafts, sustainable home and lifestyle items, and handwoven textiles and fashion; have a taste of world-class food and delicacies; see cultural performances and exhibits; and access business networking and investment opportunities.
The opening and blessing of the booths will start at 10:00 a.m. today, while the “Arima,” or ceremonial ringing of the bell and cocktails for partners and guests, will follow at 3:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City is set to take the spotlight on September 27 for the special Bacolod Day at the trade fair.
Mayor Greg Gasataya confirmed that the city will showcase its world-famous chicken inasal, various crafts from Bacolod-based artisans, and will also formally launch and promote the MassKara Festival 2025.
“Prepared naman ang city sa tanan nga needs for Bacolod Day,” Gasataya said, adding that he will personally attend the event to represent Bacolod.
The Negros Trade Fair continues to serve not only as a venue for business matching and marketing opportunities but also as a celebration of Negrense artistry, resilience and innovation. / With reports from PNA / CJ, WDJ
