Super typhoon ‘Nando’ intensifies, bears down on northern Luzon

Super Typhoon “Nando” intensifies further while bearing down on extreme Northern Luzon.

Wind Signal No. 3 is still up in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and northeastern mainland Cagayan.

Meanwhile, Wind Signal No. 2 is up over the rest of mainland Cagayan, the northern and eastern portions of Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, the easter portion of Mountain Province, Ilocos Norte, and the norther portion of Ilocos Sur.

Wind Signal No. 1 is  up in the rest of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the rest of Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, the rest of Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, the northern and central portions of Zambales, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Aurora, the northern portion of Pampanga, the northern portion of Bulacan, and the norther portion of Quezon, including Polilio Islands.

At 7:00 p.m. yesterday, Nando was located 410 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan. It now packs winds of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center with gustiness up to 240 kph.

It is moving west northwestward at 15 kph.

Wind Signals No. 4 and 5 may be raised over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, where the super typhoon may make landfall or pass very close to between Monday afternoon and evening, September 22.

Nando may be out of the Philippine area of responsibility early Tuesday, September 23.

The “Nando”-enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat will also bring moderate to heavy rains over the western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas.

Widespread and serious flooding and landslides are expected in the areas affected by “Nando” and habagat.

The public is advised to continuously monitor updates on the super typhoon and take the necessary measures to ensure protection of life and property.  (ABS-CBN News)
