North Negros Marathon debuts with Magbanua, Nobleza as first champions

The first-ever North Negros Marathon successfully unfolded recently, drawing more than 150 runners as Randolf Magbanua and Jenelyn Nobleza topped their respective divisions.

Magbanua, running for the Negros Road Runners, dominated the men’s category with a time of 2:33:33.

Teammate Maclin Sadia placed second in 2:42:16, while Bacolod Road Stallion’s Jeson Agravante settled for third at 2:46:17.

In the women’s side, Nobleza of the Bacolod Road Stallion crossed the finish line in 3:14:36, ahead of Sipalay City Running Team sisters Myrel Benignos (3:18:29) and Mitche Benignos (3:22:15).

The relay races also produced notable winners.

Arjie Baynes and April Boy Hemongala captured the men’s crown, while Aires Emat and Koonerjane Tigayon ruled the women’s division.

The 42-kilometer course started at Gregorio Lauron Sr. Park in Manapla town, passed through Cadiz City, and ended at the Sagay City Public Plaza, showcasing the host communities and drawing strong support from spectators along the route.

Representative Alfredo Marañon III, who partnered with the local governments of Manapla, Cadiz and Sagay in staging the event, praised the marathon’s success and pledged to back its future editions.

“This event showed not only discipline and endurance but also the spirit of unity across our communities,” Marañon said.

“I am committed to support the North Negros Marathon next year,” he added.

Other officials present included Sagay City Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva, Manapla Mayor Mika Escalante, Provincial Board Member Arthur Christopher Marañon, and race coordinator Joachim Sarrosa, who expressed gratitude to the runners and partners./ASC, WDJ
