The Negros Occidental provincial government is ramping up development efforts at the Mambukal Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary in Murcia town’s Barangay Minoyan to further strengthen the province’s tourism industry.

“With the additional property, we are hoping to build more villas to accommodate more visitors,” Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said during a media tour with Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II on Friday, September 5.

An additional 10-hectare property adjacent to the mountain resort was recently acquired by the provincial government, paving the way for the construction of more villas, including one with a swimming pool that is already nearing completion.

Lacson also disclosed that once trekking improvements are complete, the popular trail from the first to the seventh falls may soon reopen.

“When we are ready, we will open it,” he assured.

Earlier this year, P10 million in funds from the Department of Budget and Management was allotted by the provincial government for a redevelopment project to enhance Mambukal’s recreational trail system, covering over 1,600 square meters.

The improvements focused on ensuring visitor safety, accessibility and environmental sustainability.

To enhance the visitor experience, the resort recently inaugurated a new food court featuring four local concessionaires.

“We would like to invite everyone to taste and experience the unique culinary dishes offered at our food court,” Diaz said, adding that the dishes are affordable and highlight Negrense cuisine.

Accessibility within the resort has also been boosted with the introduction of four free-to-use golf carts, primarily catering to senior citizens, persons with disabilities and children.

Diaz said two more carts will be added soon, with units stationed at the entrance for guests without private vehicles, and others assigned around the resort to assist visitors.

Shiela Fuentes, Mambukal Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary officer-in-charge said that walk-in guests are allowed, although advance reservations upon entry are encouraged for smoother transactions and crowd management.

The upgrades, officials stressed, aim not only to attract more tourists but also to highlight Mambukal as a premier ecotourism destination in Negros Occidental, blending recreation, nature and local culture./CJ, WDJ
