The Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts stamped their dominance by sweeping all three age divisions after ruling the 17-under, 15-under and 12-under finals of the Abanse Negrense Grassroots Girls Volleyball Tournament at the Montalbo Court in Bacolod City on Monday, August 25.
In the 17-under division, Tay Tung subdued St. John’s Institute Falcons, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, with Rhose Vianne Almendralejo taking home MVP and 1st Best Open Hitter honors.
She was backed by teammates Brianna Ang (1st Best Middle Blocker), Alexa Bertolano (Best Opposite Hitter) and Jan Rose Bulak (Best Setter).
St. John’s standouts Caera Celis (2nd Best Open Hitter) and Samantha Young (Best Libero) also received individual awards.
The Thunderbolts also captured the 15-under crown after surviving Gwapo Sports Silay, 28-26, 18-25, 25-23.
Mari Antoinette Cacho powered the team with MVP and Best Opposite Hitter honors, while Marishka Andrada (Best Setter), Mary Regine Wongyan (1st Best Open Hitter), Jessica Soco (2nd Best Middle Blocker), and Luchi Vivero (Best Libero) added to the haul.
Gwapo Sports’ Kristel Mirasol (2nd Best Open Hitter) and Sophie Pamplona (1st Best Middle Blocker) were likewise recognized.
In the 12-under finals, Tay Tung edged Cebu, 25-22, 25-23, behind MVP and 1st Best Open Hitter Megan Ordaniel.
She was joined on the honor roll by Xyriz Cañete (2nd Best Middle Blocker), Janselle Peromingan (Best Setter), Aijanna Palabrica (Best Libero), and Andrea Lim (Best Setter).
Cebu’s Mary Rivera (2nd Best Open Hitter) and Veneice Mabida (1st Best Middle Blocker) also earned individual distinctions.
A total of 48 teams competed in the 2025 Abanse Negrense Grassroots Girls Volleyball Tournament across all categories./ASC, WDJ
