Comelec registers over 78-K new voters in NegOcc

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has processed the applications of 78,313 new voters in Negros Occidental during the registration for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections from August 1 to 10.

Data released by the Comelec-Negros Occidental showed that of the total registrants, 40,642 are females, while 37,671 are males.

Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said in a radio interview that the 10-day registration had a good turnout in Negros Occidental.

“I was in Bacolod City for the last two days. I observed the situation; most of those lining up were young people, about 90 to 95 percent. It’s a nice thing that we see the youth being politically aware and wanting to participate in the future elections,” he added.

Highly urbanized Bacolod City has recorded a total of 6,312 registrants.

In the first district, there were 10,902 new voter applicants. Calatrava has 2,874 registrants; Don Salvador Benedicto – 1,081; Toboso – 1,951; Escalante City – 2,280; and San Carlos City – 2,716.

A total of 10,503 individuals applied for registration in the second district, including 1,371 in Manapla, 5,671 in Cadiz City and 3,461 in Sagay City.

In the third district, 10,464 were listed as new voters. These include 1,712 in E.B. Magalona; 2,540 in Murcia; 1,742 in Talisay City; 1,871 in Silay City and 2,599 in Victorias City.

The fourth district has 10,930 registrants, with Pontevedra tallying 1,610; Pulupandan – 816; San Enrique – 1.049; Valladolid – 1,614; Bago City – 3,658 and La Carlota – 2,183.

In the fifth district, there were 14,492 registrants. Binalbagan registered 2,375 new voters; Hinigaran – 2,884; Isabela – 2,188; La Castellana – 1,649; Moises Padilla – 1,561; and Himamaylan City – 3,835.

The number of registrants in the sixth district reached 14,710, including 590 in Candoni; 1,883 in Cauayan; 1,968 in Hinoba-an; 1,529 in Ilog; 5,187 in Kabankalan City and 3,553 in Sipalay City. (PNA)
