The PLDT High Speed Hitters continued their surge in the PVL On Tour after a 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 sweep of the Galeries Tower Highrisers at the USJ-R Coliseum in Cebu City on Sunday, July 27.
Negrense Kiesha Bedonia continued her fine play, finishing with seven markers in limited minutes for the High Speed Hitters, who closed the group stage with a flawless 5-0 record.
Kim Kianna Dy tallied 12 points, all from attacks, to earn Player of the Game honors, while Mika Reyes and Jovielyn Prado chipped in 10 points each for the High Speed Hitters.
“The tournament is still gonna be a long one. There will still be quarters. There will still be semis. We just want to bring [our winning momentum] into that stage,” Dy said after the match.
“We cannot be [content with] how we perform [on the group stage]. We just need to keep improving, and we will prepare for the quarters,” the former De La Salle University Lady Spikers standout added.
The Highrisers stayed close in the third set at 17-21, but a Jewel Encarnacion error, back-to-back points by Savannah Davison and a finishing attack by Dy sealed the match.
France Ronquillo and rookie Jean Asis led the Highrisers with 11 points apiece, as they headed into the next round winless in five matches.
Meanwhile, Ennajie Laure-Cariño delivered a throwback performance as the Nxled Chameleons scored a 25-13, 25-16, 25-14 sweep over the Farm Fresh Foxies.
The former University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses standout finished with a game-high of 19 points to be named Player of the Game as the Chameleons clinched a quarterfinals seat with their 4-1 record.
Chiara Permentilla finished with 10 markers, Jovelyn Fernandez chipped in eight, Jaycel delos Reyes added five, and Krich Macaslang wound up with four markers for Nxled./ASC, WDJ
