Luzon and the Visayas will continue to experience stormy conditions caused by Typhoon “Emong” and the prevailing southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the weather bureau said yesterday afternoon.

“Emong” packs maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It was located over the coastal waters of Burgos, Pangasinan as of 4:00 p.m., moving east-southeastward slowly.

Stormy weather will prevail across the Ilocos and Cordillera regions, Batanes, and Cagayan.

“Emong” will likewise bring rains with gusty winds in Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

The southwest monsoon will bring rains over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and the rest of Central Luzon; occasional rains over Mimaropa, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas; and scattered rains and thunderstorms over the rest of the Visayas.

Mindanao will experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said “Emong” and habagat will bring heavy rains:

Strong to gale-force gusts caused by the habagat will continue to prevail across Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Mimaropa, the Visayas, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Camiguin, Dinagat Islands, and Davao Oriental.

A gale warning is in effect over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboards of tral and Southern Luzon.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm “Dante” has exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and is forecast to move westward over the East China Sea. It is forecast to weaken into a remnant low on Saturday.

Another cyclone (Tropical Storm “Krosa”) is being monitored outside PAR.

Pagasa forecaster Benison Estareja said “Krosa” is not expected to directly affect the country, but it will enhance the habagat, which will bring rains across Luzon early next week.

“Krosa” is also not expected to enter PAR, he said. (PNA)
