
The provision of assistance continues in Western Visayas, with 54.53 percent of families affected by the combined effects of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones “Crising,” “Dante” and “Emong” having received aid from the government.
Based on the report of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), 30,425 of the 55,796 families from Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Panay needing assistance were provided aid as of yesterday.
The assistance came in the form of family food packs and non-food items requested by the local government units (LGUs).
The report said 88.96 percent of 6,033 families needing help in Panay already received assistance; 76.44 percent of 10,028 families in Iloilo, 45.40 percent of 34,389 families in Antique, and 33.33 percent of 5,346 families in Capiz.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Response Operations, Monitoring and Information Communication Report 1 of the Department of Social Welfare and Development showed it has provided more than P38.57 million worth of assistance to affected families from Western Visayas and Negros Occidental.
The humanitarian aid from LGUs and non-governmental organizations amounted to P6.86 million.
A total of 56,751 family food packs and 150 non-food items were released to the affected families.
The weather disturbances affected 93,841 families, or 346,080 individuals, from 665 barangays across Western Visayas and Negros Occidental.
The report also said 76 houses were destroyed while 575 others were damaged.
Currently, 115 families are staying inside evacuation centers, while 227 families have opted to seek temporary shelter with relatives and friends.
The DSWD in Western Visayas said it still has P117.81 million worth of standby funds and stockpile as relief operations continue in affected areas. (PNA)
