The PLDT High Speed Hitters staved off a late surge from the Choco Mucho Flying Titans to secure a 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 25-17 victory in the PVL on Tour at the Capital Arena in Ilagan City, Isabela on Sunday night, July 13.
Negrense Kiesha Bedonia finished with 14 markers and eight excellent digs as the High Speed Hitters secured their third win in as many matches.
Kim Dy and Jovielyn Prado led the way for the High Speed Hitters with 15 points apiece.
Mary Joy Baron ended with 14 markers.
“It was a total team effort — everyone worked today. And kudos to Choco Mucho for giving us a tough match,” Dy said in a post-game interview.
Looking poised for a straight-sets sweep after dominating the first two frames, PLDT saw its momentum stall in the third set as the Flying Titans clawed back from a six-point deficit behind the efforts of Mean Mendrez and rookie Jen Villegas.
But the High Speed Hitters quickly reasserted control, initiating the fourth with back-to-back quick hits from Mika Reyes and Baron for a 14-10 cushion before breaking the match open with an 11-7 finishing run.
The Flying Titans, now 1-3 in the standings, drew 13 points from Ayesha Juegos and nine each from Villegas and Desiree Cheng.
However, they were dealt a major setback after Isa Molde exited early in the second set with an apparent foot injury, while veteran Jem Ferrer also went down in the fourth./ASC, WDJ
