Negrense Canino excluded as Alas Pilipinas women bow to Vietnam

Negrense Angel Canino was excluded from the roster as the Alas Pilipinas national women’s volleyball team suffered a 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 defeat to Vietnam in the VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup in Vinh Phuc, Vietnam on Sunday night, June 29.

Canino was one of the players excluded by head coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito, aside from three-time UAAP MVP Mhicaela Belen, Alyssa Solomon and UAAP Rookie of the Year Shaina Nitura.

Taking over their spots from the squad are Filipina-Americans Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips of the Petro Gazz Angels, as well as Choco Mucho Flying Titans rookie Tia Andaya.

Other players in the squad are Maddie Madayag, Amie Provido, Dell Palomata, Mereophe Sharma, Thea Gagate, Jia Morado-De Guzman, Camilla Lamina, and Marionne Alba.

Also part of the national squad roster are Eya Laure, Vanie Gandler, Alleiah Malaluan, Leila Cruz, Dawn Catindig, and Justine Jazareno.

After losing to host Vietnam, Alas Pilipinas women will conclude their group stages against Australia this afternoon./ASC, WDJ
