Alex Eala is gearing up for a potential rematch with Jelena Ostapenko, this time on the grass court at the Eastbourne Open.

Ostapenko was one of Eala’s victims during her Cinderella run at the Miami Open, with the Filipina ace outlasting the Latvian star 7-6, 7-5.

Eala, currently ranked 74 by the World Tennis Association, triumphed 6-0, 6-1 against World No. 61 Lucia Bronzetti, playing almost flawless tennis to advance to the Round of 16.

But standing in the way of the possible Eala-Ostapenko II is the United Kingdom’s Sonay Kartal, now-ranked 49th globally.

This is Ostapenko’s first grass tournament of the season, while Kartal has competed in two grass tournaments this year: the HSBC Championships in London and Lexus Nottingham Open in the UK.

Ostapenko is also the third-seeded player in the tournament following Seed No. 2 Barbora Krejčíková (No. 17) and top-seed Daria Kasatkina (No. 16). (ABS-CBN news)
