Bacolodnon Johann Chua settled for a silver medal finish in the 2025 9-Ball Peri Tribute Cup after a 13-4 loss to hometown bet Nguyen Anh Tuan at the Da Nang Peri Pool Arena in Vietnam on Saturday, June 21.
Chua started strong before misfiring with his shots as Tuan completed several tough shots for a 7-2 lead to seal their race-to-13 championship match.
Prior to the finals loss, the 33-year-old Chua prevailed over Jeffrey Ignacio in the Round of 32, 9-2, followed by a 9-8 escape over Vietnamese Nguyen Van Huynh in the Round of 16.
In the quarterfinals round, Chua defeated AJ Manas, 10-3, before defeating another Filipino billiard star, Carlo Biado, 11-3, in the semifinals round.
Chua also swept his first-round assignments after beating local bets Tat Duy Kien (9-5), Luong Chi Dung (9-2) and Nguyen Hoang Tuan (9-6).
Aside from Chua, Biado, Manas, and Ignacio, several top-notch players from the Philippines took part in the 128-man field, including Michael Feliciano, Mark Estiola, Alexis Ferrer, Bryant Saguiped, Aivhan Maluto, Jesson Marabi, Amiel Leonor, Baseth Mocaibat, Raymond Faraon, Tristan Deocareza, and Anton Raga./ASC, WDJ
