The Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts cruised to a winning start in the 2025 Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League Rising Stars Cup Division 1 at the La Salle Green Hills Gym on Monday, June 2.
The Thunderbolts, who finished runner-up last season, opened their campaign with a 25-14, 25-16 victory over Bethel Academy with setter Jan Rose Bulak being named Player of the Game.
The Ian Macariola-mentored Thunderbolts followed this up with a straight-set win against the De La Salle-Lipa, 25-18, 25-18.
Ana Hermosura was adjudged as the Player of the Game with seven points.
The Thunderbolts only started their campaign on Monday after representing Western Visayas in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa last week in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
Meanwhile, the National University Nazareth School (NUNS) Lady Bullpups also cruised to a 2-0 start with a 25-23, 25-14, victory over the St. John’s Institute-Bacolod Falcons.
NUNS encountered tough resistance from the Falcons in the opening set.
The Ilonggo squad kept it close and even saved a set point, 23-24, before Jenelyn Jacob secured the frame with a down the line hammer.
The Falcons ended their campaign with a 1-3 win-loss record./ASC, WDJ
