The San Beda University Lady Red Spikers ended their NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball campaign with a 25-12, 25-15, 20-25, 25-22 victory over the University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas at the Playtime FilOil Arena in San Juan City on Wednesday, May 28.
Negrense Reyann Cañete capped off her collegiate career with a double-double of 14 points and 14 excellent digs, to go with five excellent receptions as the Lady Red Spikers finished with a 4-14 win-loss slate.
“Sinabihan ko ‘yung teammates ko na sana maganda ‘yung exit ko and para matuwa din ‘yung community namin, ‘yung sponsors namin and ‘yung Bedan community,” Cañete said during her Player of the Game interview.
Angel Habacon top-scored with 29 points, to go with 24 attacks and five service aces, while rookie Janelle Bachar chipped in 20 points for the Lady Red Spikers.
“Lahat ng panalo talaga ay chine-cherish namin kasi ‘yung pinagdaanan talaga ng team na ito ay sobra talaga. Kaya natutuwa ako sa team na ito kasi walang nag-quit. Talagang tinapos nila itong season,” Lady Red Spikers head coach Joshua Noda said.
“Kahit medyo late na sila [nagpapanalo], at least, medyo maganda ‘yung exit namin dito sa Season 100,” he added.
Rookie Jem Menor had 13 points, while Geraldine Palacio and senior Winnie Bedaña had 12 points apiece as the Lady Altas concluded the season in fifth place with a 9-9 win-loss slate.
Meanwhile, dethroned champion University of Perpetual Help Altas (10-8) ended their season with a 16-25, 30-28, 25-27, 25-22, 15-12 victory over the San Beda University Red Lions (10-8).
Kobe Brian Taguba erupted for 32 points from 28 attacks, two blocks and two aces.
Jeff Marapoc had 22 points to go with 22 receptions, while John Castil added 16 points for Altas./ASC, WDJ
