The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) fully supports the decision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to evaluate the performance of the members of his Cabinet through a call for courtesy resignations.
This after the 149-member league issued a statement of support yesterday signed by acting national president, Quezon City Mayor Ma. Josefina “Joy” Belmonte-Alimurung, and national chairman, Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.
“This call is a reaffirmation of the President’s resolve to align his leadership team with the highest standards of excellence, integrity and results-oriented governance. It sends a strong message that public service must always be rooted in trust, performance, and the greater good,” the LCP said.
“[We] commend and deeply appreciate the Cabinet members who have responded with humility and patriotism to the President’s call, demonstrating that true service to the nation transcends personal interest and partisan politics.”
The LCP said they recognized that the results of the recent midterm elections reflect the people’s growing demand for faster, more transparent, and more effective public service, and they “stand in solidarity with the President during this renewed phase of governance.”
According to the LCP, the President, “as a responsive and listening leader, underscores his commitment to accountability and to building a government that is not only competent but also empathetic to the needs of every Filipino.”
“The league also affirms its readiness to work closely with national government agencies in ensuring that no Filipino is left behind,” the league added.
Malacañang announced on Thursday, May 22, that Marcos has directed all Cabinet secretaries to submit a courtesy resignation.
It said the request for courtesy resignations would give Marcos “the elbow room to evaluate the performance of each department and determine who will continue to serve, in line with his administration’s recalibrated priorities.” (PNA)
