Negrense boxer Donnie Nietes is making a return from a lengthy hiatus by taking on a younger opponent at the Elorde Sports Center in Parañaque City.
Nietes, who broke Gabriel “Flash” Elorde’s record of being the longest reigning Filipino boxing champion, battled Miller Alapormina in a six-round bantamweight fight.
The last time Nietes fought was in June 2022 when he lost a unanimous decision in a title bout against Kazuto Ioka.
The 42-year-old Nietes previously held world titles in the mini-flyweight, junior flyweight, flyweight, and junior bantamweight divisions.
Nietes will enter the match with a 43-2-6 win-loss-draw record, including 23 stoppage wins.
Alapormina has a 6-4-2 mark, including four knockout wins./ASC, WDJ
