An 83-year-old man killed his granddaughter’s boyfriend after he mistook him for a thief in Valencia, Negros Oriental.

According to a report on Thursday, April 3, the 36-year-old victim visited his girlfriend’s house where they were chatting in the living room.

The victim later went inside the bedroom of his girlfriend where the 83-year-old suspect was sleeping at that time.

The elderly man was suddenly awakened when the victim entered and shot him because he thought he was a thief.

The suspect is now detained and was charged for murder and illegal possession of firearms.

The suspect’s family did not allow interviews with him after his blood pressure was elevated.

His granddaughter did not give a comment.

The family of the victim pointed out that he’s not a thief.

“Who will feed me now? You killed my grandson. I don’t know what to do anymore. They don’t have any pity,” said Timotea Balolong, the victim’s grandmother, in vernacular.

But his family admitted that the victim was already arrested before but not for thievery.

“No matter who you ask here in our barangay, even the barangay captain, he does not have any record for thievery,” said Jeoffrey Pioneta, the victim’s brother. (GMA Integrated News)
