The public is urged to comply with the ongoing election gun ban, which remains in effect until June 11, Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO-6) Director Brigadier General Jack Wanky said yesterday.

Despite continuous reminders, violations persist, Wanky said.

From January 12 to March 10, intensified police checkpoints and operations resulted in the confiscation of 69 firearms, six gun replicas, and two explosives.

A total of 71 individuals were arrested for gun ban violations.

Negros Occidental recorded the highest number of arrests with 20, followed by Iloilo province with 16, and Capiz with 11.

“We would like to remind them again that we have a gun ban. We have checkpoints. So don’t dare bring your firearms. Even if it’s licensed, it will not be effective unless you apply for an exemption that is approved by Comelec [Commission on Elections],” he said.

PRO-6 spokesperson, Lt. Colonel Arnel Solis said the strict implementation of the gun ban is vital in ensuring a secure, peaceful, and orderly May 2025 national and local elections. (PNA)
