The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Junior Growling Tigresses stamped their class with a dominant 170-46 victory over the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eaglets in the UAAP Season 87 girls basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City.

Bacolodnon Barby Dajao finished with 21 points on 10-of-12 field goal shooting, to go with five rebounds, five assists and four steals to be named Player of the Game as the Junior Growling Tigresses improved to a 4-0 record.

Silaynon Grachelle Boteros top-scored for UST with 25 points.

Rhiane Perez and Sybil Onate added 20 and 14 markers, respectively.

Kassandra Tambawan and Maxine Floreindo contributed 11 points each, while Sandra Abrantes and Katrina Insoy ended with 10 apiece.

The Junior Golden Tigresses’ 124-point win sets a new UAAP girls’ basketball record for the largest winning margin, surpassing the previous mark of 99 points set by the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Lady Archers in a 115-16 victory over the Blue Eaglets last week.

“Nag-uumpisa pa lang ang Ateneo eh. We want them to have that feel of playing in the UAAP,” Junior Growling Tigresses head coach Arensio Dysangco said after the game.

“Although alam naman natin na nagsisimula pa lang sila, we want them to enjoy the game itself just like we do,” he added.

Tyler Templo finished with 14 points.

Virlene Gozum added 10 markers as the Blue Eaglets remained in search of their first victory after four matches./ASC, WDJ
