Five individuals were arrested for violating the gun ban in relation to the 2025 midterm elections, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) said.
NOCPPO spokesperson Police Captain Judesses Catalogo said the arrests took place in various locations, such as Cadiz City, where one .22 revolver was recovered; Sagay City, where two .45 caliber pistols were seized; Talisay City, where another .45 caliber pistol was found; and Hinigaran town, where another .22 revolver was confiscated.
Catalogo said the confiscated firearms were seized not at checkpoints but during police operations.
He reported that three apprehensions were made during drug buy-bust operations, while one was an incidental lawful arrest.
The gun ban is part of security measures implemented by the Commission on Elections since January 12, to ensure a safe electoral process leading up to the May 12 elections.
Authorities continue to urge compliance with the ban, reminding citizens that only law enforcement personnel are authorized to carry firearms during the election period until June 11./JB, WDJ
