President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. has called on the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) to remain steadfast in addressing insurgency while praising its significant contributions to the country’s pursuit of lasting peace and development.

In his message relayed during the NTF-ELCAC’s 6th anniversary at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on Friday, December 6, Marcos commended the task force for its tireless efforts in tackling the root causes of insurgency and revitalizing conflict-affected communities.

“The path to lasting peace is fraught with myriad challenges. Emerging threats to national security demand both caution and innovation. We must continue to ensure that our programs remain relevant and responsive to the needs of our communities,” Marcos said in a message read by Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., as quoted in an NTF-ELCAC news release on Saturday, December 7.

“Beyond these efforts, we must emphasize stakeholder engagement and improve our partnership with other sectors of society.”

The President also acknowledged NTF-ELCAC’s success in offering a second chance to former rebels, citing programs like the Barangay Development Program, Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program and the ongoing amnesty program, which have helped uplift the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable communities.

Marcos rallied the task force to press forward with renewed determination.

“As you gather today, may this anniversary inspire us to press forward with even greater resolve. Together, let us continue to invigorate a Bagong Pilipinas — one marked by peace and progress in our communities across the country,” he said.

NTF-ELCAC was established through Executive Order 70 signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in December 2018, institutionalizing the government’s whole-of-nation approach to resolving the communist insurgency. (PNA)
