Belangel, Daegu prevail over Anyang in KBL

Negrense Samjosef Belangel came up huge in the endgame as the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus escaped with an 83-80 victory over the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters in the Korean Basketball League at the Daegu Gymnasium on Monday, December 2.

Belangel finished the match with 13 points, including two three-point conversions, to go with five assists, three rebounds and a block as the Pegasus improved to an 8-4 win-loss slate.

Down 78-80 after a three-point play by Red Boosters’ Jeong Hyo-guen, Belangel passed the ball to Shin Seung-min for the go-ahead three-pointer with less than a minute left in the game.

Following a missed basket by Red Boosters’ Park Ji-hoon, the Negrense Belangel extended Pegasus’ advantage to 83-80 with two free throws with 23 seconds remaining in the game.

Andrew Nicholson led the way with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, Lee Dae-heon added 15 markers, while Youssopha Ndoye and Jeong Seong-woo had 13 and 12, respectively, for Daegu.

“It seems like the players had a strong will to break the losing streak at home today. They gave up a lot of points to the opponent, but I am thankful [we] managed to overcome it and win the game,” Daegu head coach Kang Hyuk said.

Cady Lallane ended with 15 points and 12 rebounds, Bae Byung-jun added 15 markers, while Park Ji-hoon and Jeong Hyo-geun contributed 14 markers apiece as the Red Boosters dropped to a 5-7 record.

Meanwhile, Miguel Oczon and the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus (9-4) prevailed over Justin Gutang and the Seoul Samsung Thunders (2-10), 87-71, at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium.

Oczon finished with six points, two rebounds, one assist, and a steal for the Mobis Phoebus, while Gutang ended up with six points and two rebounds in eight minutes for the Thunders.

On the other hand, Juan Gomez de Liaño tallied seven points and five rebounds as the league-leading Seoul SK Knights (11-2) scored a dominant 100-62 victory over the Suwon KT Sonic Boom (8-6)./ASC, WDJ
