The 302nd Infantry Brigade (IBde) will conduct a separate investigation into the shooting incident involving military personnel inside a detachment of the 15th Infantry Battalion at Barangay Manlucahoc in Negros Occidental’s Sipalay City earlier this week.
Brigadier General Joey Escanillas, 302IBde commander, said it is not yet clear what caused the incident.
Escanillas added that he did not tolerate the incident, considering it was an “isolated case.”
He assured that those responsible would face appropriate consequences.
The 302IBde commander said there is a policy within the detachment that prohibits unwholesome activities, such as drinking alcoholic beverages.
Escanillas once again reminded the military to observe conduct and discipline inside the premises.
On Monday, November 25, 36-year-old Corporal Arnold Sumaribos, a resident of Iloilo City, was allegedly shot dead by a colleague inside an Army detachment at Barangay Manlucahoc’s Sitio Barasbarasan in Sipalay.
Police identified the suspect as 43-year-old Staff Sergeant Charlemagne Nabejet, a resident of Lanao del Norte.
An initial police investigation revealed that Sumaribos and Nabejet were having a drinking session to celebrate the birthday of a colleague.
However, the simple celebration led to an altercation.
The suspect drew a short firearm and allegedly shot Sumaribos in the left arm and chest.
The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, Nabejet was arrested by the police and disarmed.
He will face an administrative sanction that may lead to his discharge from the service, Escanillas said./WDJ
