
The damage to agriculture due to inclement weather brought about by Severe Tropical Storm “Kristine” in Negros Occidental increased to almost P6 million, according to the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) and Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).
Rice crops sustained damage totaling P3,221,433.90, while fisheries suffered losses at P2,281,730, OPA officer-in-charge Teena Pineda said in her report submitted to Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.
PVO head Placeda Lemana reported damage to livestock was pegged at P400,000.
Lemana said the cities of La Carlota and Bago, as well as the towns of Pulupandan, Valladolid and Pontevedra, reported damage to livestock brought by inclement weather in the past week.
Earlier, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center (PDRRMC) reported damage to the fisheries sector, particularly in Cadiz City and E.B. Magalona town, totaling P575,930.
Meanwhile, 2,348 families or 8,452 individuals in 108 barangays in the province have been displaced by the inclement weather due to “Kristine” last week.
At least 791 families or 2,715 persons from 19 affected local government units remain in evacuation centers, as of Tuesday, October 29.
Ninety-six houses were destroyed, while 2,898 others were partially damaged, the PDRRMC reported./WDJ
