Negrense Alexa Montoro had a solid Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles debut as they swept the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Lady Generals, 25-12, 25-21, 25-12, in the 2024 Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championship at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday, October 16.
The Negrense rookie finished with seven points, all coming from attacks, as the Blue Eagles secured a spot in the next phase of the competition with their 3-1 win-loss record.
“I think what helped me produce points here is by following what the coach said and our system, and just [enjoying] the game,” Montoro said during her Player of the Game interview.
“I think you should look forward for us becoming stronger kasi we train every day and, hopefully, we’ll get through the next round by sweeping our upcoming games,” she added.
Jennifer delos Santos led the way with 10 points, while Negrense Jihan Chuatico added seven points for Ateneo, which will battle the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws and the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses in the next round.
The Lady Generals ended their campaign winless in four games.
Meanwhile, the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers also clinched a seat in the next round after their dominant 25-13, 25-22, 25-19 sweep over the Adamson University Lady Falcons.
Mary Grace Borromeo finished with 10 points, on eight attacks, one block and a service ace, as the Lady Blazers moved on to the next phase of the tournament with their 1-1 record./ASC, WDJ
