Bacolod City is preparing for a more competitive MassKara Street Dance and Arena Competition scheduled for October 27, although only seven barangays will be participating this year.
In an interview yesterday, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez expressed optimism that having fewer participants could enhance the quality and creativity of the performances, resulting in a more captivating showcase.
Benitez reminded all participating barangays of the importance of adhering to financial protocols, including liquidating subsidies for the contests, to ensure their eligibility for future competitions.
The reduced number of contingents stems from several barangays being unable to participate due to issues with liquidating expenses from past competitions.
This year’s participants include Barangays 6, 12, 18, 21, 35, Bata, and Granada, marking a significant decline from 16 contingents in 2022 and 10 in 2023.
Despite the lower turnout, the contingents are hopeful that MassKara’s vibrant spirit will shine through their performances, making it a memorable event for both participants and spectators alike.
Benitez also emphasized the participants’ need for early preparation of necessary documents for liquidation./JB, WDJ
