At least 3,108 heads of various farm animals were listed as mortalities due to heavy rains and floods caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon in the past week, data from the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) showed yesterday.

Dr. Placeda Lemana, the provincial veterinarian, said in an interview the animals died due to drowning, hypothermia or low body temperature, and pneumonia.

Mortalities were reported among swine, cattle, carabao, goat/sheep, poultry/chicken, and ducks.

According to the PVO data, total damage was pegged at P3.314 million based on reports of 402 households in 15 affected local government units (LGUs).

Isabela town recorded the highest damage at P1.116 million, affecting 1,108 heads of poultry in 122 households.

Other mortalities were reported in Valladolid at P691,425 for 651 heads; Bago City, P394,264 for 437 heads; La Carlota City, P280,616 for 91 heads; Pulupandan, P237,604 for 179 heads; Sipalay City, P151,102 for 234 heads; and San Enrique, P138,422 for 134 heads.

The rest of the LGU reported damage below P100,000. (PNA)
