The San Miguel Beermen overpowered the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, 131-82, on Sunday night, September 15, at the Araneta Coliseum, as veteran guard Marcio Lassiter wrote his name in the history books as the PBA’s three-point king.
Behind four three-pointers from Lassiter in the opening frame, San Miguel raced to a 37-13 start and were never threatened as they claimed their sixth win in Group B.
With their 6-2 win-loss record, the Beermen have clinched a quarterfinals spot in the 2024 PBA Governors’ Cup.
It was a night to remember for Lassiter, who became the PBA’s new all-time leader in three-pointers made after sinking his third triple in the first quarter.
He finished with 18 points — all on triples — while June Mar Fajardo had 24 points and 17 rebounds.
CJ Perez added 22 points and six assists.
San Miguel did not need a big performance from import Jordan Adams, who had 12 points and 11 boards in the win.
So lopsided was the game that Beermen coach Jorge Gallent was able to give long minutes to his back-ups, including fan-favorite Kyt Jimenez, who knocked down a four-pointer late and finished with six points.
RJ Abarrientos had 19 points and Justin Brownlee put up 16 points, 11 boards and six assists for the Gin Kings.
Ginebra dropped to 5-3 in the conference. (ABS-CBN News)
