Negrense guard Mark Nonoy was still not part of the Terrafirma Dyip’s roster when they made their 2024 PBA Governors’ Cup debut against the Converge FiberXers at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last night.
According to the Negros Occidental’s La Carlota City-native point guard, he has yet to secure his release from the Iloilo United Royals, his squad in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
“Sana nga as early as now, ma-release na nga ako [ng United Royals],” Nonoy said in an interview with Spin website.
“Ito kasi ‘yung pinapangarap ko, kaya sobrang saya ako if ever,” he added.
For his part, Dyip team governor Bobby Rosales said they are just waiting for Nonoy’s release from the United Royals before signing him to a rookie contract.
The former De La Salle University Green Archers guard has signed a one-season deal with the United Royals, which will only expire at the end of their 2024 MPBL Season campaign.
Nonoy is one of the three first-round draftees during the PBA Season 49 Rookie Draft who has yet to be signed, aside from Justine Baltazar of the Converge FiberXers and Dave Ildefonso of the NorthPort Batang Pier./ASC, WDJ
