Alas Pilipinas showed its grit in beating Indonesia in five sets to secure another podium finish in the second leg of the 2024 Women’s SEA V.League on Sunday afternoon, August 11, at the Korat Chatchai Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Several players stepped up as the Filipinas twice overturned a one-set deficit en route to a 20-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 15-10 triumph over Indonesia.

It was a repeat of their result in the first leg, when a four-set win over the Indonesians also assured the Philippines of a third-place finish in the regional meet.

Jema Galanza came off the bench to give the Philippines a big lift in the second and fourth sets, with the Creamline star scoring the off-the-block hit that put Alas Pilipinas at set point, 24-18, in the fourth frame.

Back-to-back errors from the Philippines kept Indonesia alive, but a service error by Indonesia in turn sent the match to a decider.

Alas Pilipinas surged to a 5-1 advantage in the fifth set, enough to withstand Indonesia’s last-ditch rallies.

National University star Alyssa Solomon teamed up with Cherry Nunag for a block that made it 13-10, before a hitting error by Megawati put the Philippines at match point.

Solomon delivered the winner, a down-the-line hit that secured the win for Alas Pilipinas.

Much like in the first leg, Alas Pilipinas dropped its assignments to Vietnam and Thailand but came through against Indonesia.

Thailand and Vietnam will contest the gold medal later on Sunday, August 18. (ABS-CBN News)
