Negrense gymnast Sheena Jillianne Chua Ty had a remarkable 2024 Palarong Pambansa campaign as she took home six gold medals in the competition held at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation in Cebu City.

Ty, originally from Bacolod City but represented Olongapo City in the sporting event, captured her gold medals in the elementary girls’ rhythmic gymnastics team, individual all around, freehand, rope, hoop, and ball events.

The 10-year-old Ty dazzled the audience with all four of her routines from freehand (which gave tribute to Señor Sto. Niño), followed by her impressive moves in the rope, hoop and ball apparatuses.

Ty, a student of Special Education Center for the Gifted in Kalayaan, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, participated in Palarong Pambansa for the second straight year after a three-gold, three-silver performance last year in Marikina City.

“Jill is a living testament that hard work and determination really pays off. Her perseverance, resilience, dedication, and prayers has brought her to newer heights,” her mother, Jac Jac Ty, said.

In table tennis, Lexi Mikayla Marcella of San Enrique Central School in Negros Occidental, and Bethany Adriel Esmeño of Sigma Central Elementary School in Capiz won a gold in the elementary girls’ doubles event.

On the other hand, Andrea Deondo and Leslie Faye Dizon of the Vicente Andaya Sr. National High School in Capiz, also captured a gold medal in the secondary girls’ doubles event.

Prince Joel Romero of Don Felix Robles Elementary School in Negros Occidental and Joshua Miguel Banas of Central Philippine University in Iloilo City, bagged a silver medal in the elementary boys’ doubles event.

Alain Vincent R. Dominguez and Jannuel Forro, both from Central Philippine University, also secured a silver medal finish in the secondary boys’ doubles table tennis event.

Forro also had a bronze medal in the secondary boys’ mixed doubles table tennis event with Menchie Kate Dizon of Vicente Andaya Sr. National High School./ADC, WDJ
