Negrense Maicah Larroza expressed disbelief at being selected as the no. 4 overall pick by the Farm Fresh Foxies in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Rookie Draft at a hotel in Quezon City on Monday night, July 8.

The former De La Salle University (DLSU) volleyball player said she is looking forward to playing for Foxies head coach Shota Sato, and sharing what she has learned from the Lady Spikers with her new teammates.

“I am overwhelmed. I did not expect that I would be picked by Farm Fresh. Of course, I am very excited, and I look forward to working with my future coaches and teammates,” Larroza said.

“I am looking forward to being under their Japanese head coach. Farm Fresh is a young and emerging team, and I am excited na i-share ‘yung skills ko sa kanila, and excited din ako na mag-learn ng mga bago dun,” she added.

The Bacolod City native outside hitter also said that the drafting of four Lady Spikers players in the Top 4 of PVL’s inaugural draft is a testament to how good DLSU head coach Ramil de Jesus’ program is.

“I think this is the product of our sacrifices and hard work, kasi iba ‘yung pinagdaanan namin, iba ‘yung journey namin sa La Salle. Ni-look forward na namin na meron kaming maa-achieve dito sa PVL,” Larroza said.

“Coach Ramil was an instrument sa pag-achieve ko sa dreams ko. Isa siya sa naging coaches ko along the way. Isa pa din siya sa magiging inspirasyon ko dito sa PVL,” she added.

Meanwhile, the other Negrense who participated in the rookie draft, Larroza’s former Lady Spikers’ teammate Caroline Santos, was not selected during the proceedings./ASC, WDJ
