The Bacolod City government will resume the apprehension of illegal electric (e)-bicycles on May 24.
Mayor Alfredo Albelardo Benitez, in a meeting with punong barangays and other stakeholders on Friday, May 17, reminded them to abide by Memorandum Circular 2020-036 of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, which prohibits tricycles, pedicabs, motorized pedicabs, and e-bicycles from operating on national highways.
Benitez said the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office will apprehend e-bicycles operating without proper permits.
He also urged barangays officials to submit the list of accredited e-bike operators in their respective areas.
City villages have until Monday, May 20 to submit their lists.
The mayor thanked barangays Banago, Bata, Cabug, Estefania, Felisa, Handumanan, Granada, Pahanocoy, Vista Alegre, Villamonte, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 22, 34, 35, 36, 38, and 40 for early compliance.
Section 8 of City Ordinance No. 185 prohibits all types of motorized tricycles within the city’s downtown area./WDJ
