Petro Gazz ace Brooke Van Sickle knows the importance of recovery before facing the defending champion Creamline Cool Smashers.

Baring the team’s plans for the Holy Week break, the former US NCAA standout said they needed to recover to be a “hundred percent going in.”

“I would just say, you know, it’s a long break before our next game, [so] we just gotta stay focused. We have time to recover [our] bodies, and make sure we’re a hundred percent going in,” Van Sickle said after the Gazz Angels made fast work of Capital1 on March 26, 25-11, 25-19, 25-14, in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

One of the current top scorers in the flourishing volleyball league, Van Sickle had a productive afternoon in the said match after nailing 19 points on 15 attacks, three aces and one block.

She added that they would take time to “watch the film” and study Creamline.

Title contenders Petro Gazz Angels aim to replicate Chery Tiggo’s 25-18, 26-24, 25-23 upset victory against Creamline on April 6, at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex — both teams’ first game after the Holy Week break.

“Just watch [the] film, take care of business, focus on our side, just keep pushing each other, one day at a time,” she said further.

In the same interview with reporters, Van Sickle also said that they were stunned “for a couple of days” after a 24-26, 25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 15-13 heartbreak handed by the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.

“I’d say, definitely the five-set loss, that hurt a lot, I would say. I don’t think we really recovered extremely fast, so definitely, you know, stunned a little bit for a couple of days,” the Petro Gazz hitter said.

“But it is what it is. You can’t keep being sad about what happened in the past. You gotta move on, right?”

But the spiker, with roots from San Emilio, Ilocos Sur, also added that she’s proud of the team after bouncing back from the loss, highlighting the Gazz Angels’ mental fortitude.

“‘Cause right now, with how the records [are] going, how the PVL’s going, it’s very competitive right now. I’m proud of my teammates for being able to wash it. It is what it is, learn from it and move on,” Van Sickle concluded. (ABS-CBN News)
