Pork prices in Bacolod City dropped from P410 to P375 per kilo, following the implementation of the Executive Order (EO) No. 9, which provides additional regulations on the movement protocols of swine products, City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea said yesterday.

However, Gelvolea said only Burgos Market offers pork at P385 per kilo, while in some major markets, the price is at P400 per kilo.

Gelvolea said the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) conducts daily supply and price monitoring in the city.

Earlier, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez directed the LPCC to convene due to a sudden increase in pork prices in public markets.

Benitez issued EO 9 on February 23, based on Department of Agriculture’s Administrative Circular No. 2.

Gelvolea said the different pricing for pork depends on their sources.

Even though the city government allows importation of pork byproducts from other provinces, such as Bohol and Palawan, the supply is still not enough.

“We are working with other provinces and also from local suppliers here in Negros Occidental so that the prices will continue to decrease,” Gelvolea said./MS, WDJ
