A man died after a pickup truck crashed into his tricycle on Hernaez Street and Circumferential Road in Bacolod City’s Barangay Taculing yesterday morning.

Joel Co, 39 years old, a resident of the city’s Barangay Cabug, was dead on the spot.

The pickup driver was identified as 37-year-old Oscar Corpuz of Bago City’s Barangay Napoles.

Police Station 6 head, Captain Dax Santillan, said they encountered difficulty in identifying Co’s identity, as he was found without his driver’s license or any identification cards.

A police investigation showed the tricycle was traveling along Circumferential Road from Barangay Alijis towards the New Government Center.

The pickup truck, heading from Barangay Libertad to Barangay Mansilingan, accidentally crashed into the tricycle at the intersection.

“Suno sa driver sang pickup, medyo madasig-dasig iya nga dalagan, kag wala niya matalupangdan ang tricycle nga nagtapak na sa intersection,” Santillan said.

The incident caused severe injuries to the victim, which led to his demise.

“Tungod sang impact sa tricycle nga ginamaneho sang biktima, nagisi gid pati ang makina. Medyo layo pa ang pickup kag nakapundo,” he said.

Corpuz is currently detained at their custodial facility.

Santillan reminded motorists about road safety, emphasizing the importance of observing traffic rules and reducing speed at intersections.

He emphasized the importance of carrying identification cards in case of emergencies.

“Dala gid identification [cards], driver’s license ukon ano pa da nga identification nga mabitbit ninyo, contact number, para kung ano man matabo, ma-contact dayon naton ang immediate family nila,” he added./JB, WDJ
