The Bacolod City government along with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) will regulate the selling of butane canisters following a series of fire incidents this month.

“Damu reported nga sunog. Isa sa na-consider nga halinan [sang sunog] ang mga butane. Gusto ni Mayor [Alfredo Abelardo Benitez] nga i-regulate ang pagbaligya sang butane,” City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting, Jr. said yesterday.

Ting said butane canisters should only be sold by registered suppliers.

Personnel from the Business Permits and Licensing Office, City Legal Office and the BFP will confiscate illegal stocks of refilled butane canisters during the inspection.

They were also directed to monitor and inspect market stalls selling butane and firecrackers.

The city council proposed an ordinance that prohibits the hazardous practice of refilling butane canisters with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The measure outlaws the sale and distribution of LPG-refilled butane canisters.

A P3,000 administrative fine will be imposed on violators of the proposed ordinance./MS, WDJ
