The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is urging the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to increase police visibility in areas of convergence in the city, especially at night, to ensure a safe holiday celebration.
The SP passed a resolution, requesting the BCPO to boost police visibility in Bacolod Baywalk, city public plaza, the Bacolod City Government Center grounds, and the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Lagoon.
“The said places are frequented by most people because of the opulent, colorful decorations and abundant bright lights,” Councilor Em Ang said.
“Statistics show there are many people gathered in the areas, especially at night, when criminal activities often occur,” she added.
Meanwhile, BCPO administrative officer, Lt. Colonel Ronnie Brillo, said that they are now on high alert for the holidays.
Brillo said the Philippine National Police, in a directive, required a high degree of alertness, readiness and preparedness, in line with security measures and an intensified anti-criminality campaign for the Ligtas Paskuhan 2023.
The BCPO has also deployed Bacolod Police Public Assistance Desks inside the city churches during Misa de Gallo to ensure the safety of the residents while attending Masses./MS, WDJ
