Around 100 job order (JO) and casual employees of the Bacolod City government were considered “resigned” after they had filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

City Administrator Pacifico Maghari III said the Sectoral Affairs Office reported there were at least a hundred JO employees who had filed COCs.

He explained that effective from the day of COC filing, they were now considered candidates.

Their service with the city government will also discontinue, he added.

Kathrina Trinio-Caña of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod said once the government employees file their COC, they will be deemed resigned from government service, while employees in the private sector will depend on the policies of the private entity.

Maghari assured the public that the JO employees’ discontinued service will not affect the services of the city government, as several applicants are on the city government’s waiting list.

The city has around 3,500 JOs.

The Comelec conducted the filing of COC from August 28 to September 2./MS, WDJ
