The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City has turned down the certificates of candidacy (COC) of the three Sangguniang Kabataan(SK) council member aspirants due to several reasons relative to the October 30 Barangay and SK Elections(BSKE).
The three are residents of barangays 11, 20 and 5.
City Election Officer Kathrina Trinio-Caña said that two of the aspirants filed their COCs on the first day of filing on August 28. However they did not accept it after finding out they were overage.
She explained that aspirants must be at least 18 years old but strictly not more than 24 years old by the day of the election for SK posts.
The other aspirant, who filed the COC yesterday, was also rejected because the person has a relative who is an incumbent barangay official.
As of August 28, Comelec-Bacolod City data showed that a total of 51 had filed their COCs for punong barangay and 447 for barangay council members, while 51 also filed their COCs for SK chairman and 288 for “kagawad” posts.
The filing of COC is until September 2.
Earlier, Comelec Region 6 director Atty. Dennis Ausan urged aspirants to visit the Comelec website, https://comelec.gov.ph/, for the list of requirements before heading to COC filing sites.
“Magkadto anay sa election officers para mag-check sang requirements and forms nga gamiton para ma-avoid naton ang delay kon mag-submit kita sang COC,” Ausan added. (Panay News)/WDJ
