Talisay Sharks punched a seat to the semifinals of the United Negros Basketball League (UNBL) 2nd Chairman’s Cup 15-and-under category after a 93-45 rout of Megalodon in the quarterfinals at the Msgr. John Liu Activity Center in Bacolod City.
Paul Barcelona was once again hailed as the Player of the Game after finishing with 27 points for the no. 1 ranked Sharks, which will face Bacolod Tay Tung High School in the semifinals this Saturday, August 19.
Toby Orbista chipped in 21 markers, Ace Cortejo and Klyde Malaga supplied 10 points apiece, as Pyland Umadhay and Jimuel Santiago contributed six points each for the Sharks.
Bacolod Tay Tung entered the semis after a 68-47 domination over Colegio de San Agustin (CSA)-Bacolod. Francis Lamasan and Kyle Pimentel spearheaded the attack with 19 and 15 markers, respectively.
In another 15-and-under quarterfinals game, no. 1 seed Team Kenn prevailed over St. Joseph School-La Salle Lineage, 67-41. Zaijan Sarmiento top-scored for the winning team with 13 points, while Anacito Docto added 10 markers.
In the 17-and-under category, no. 2 seed Notre Dame reached the semifinals round after a 103-98 triumph over no. 3 seed C&C Café/Ang Batang Hardware in a tightly-contested quarterfinals round.
Andrei Gallego top-scored for Notre Dame with 28 points, Kent Arriesgado added 18 markers, while Mark Descartin and Enrico Ong also hit double-digits with 17 and 11 markers, respectively.
No. 1 ranked CSA-Bacolod also made it to the semifinals stage after a lopsided 82-55 victory over no. 4 seed La Carlota Jaguars in their round-of-eight encounter.
Nathaniel Eriman led a balance attack of CSA-Bacolod with 11 points, Aldwyn Yso added 10 markers, while Joselito Tampepe, Cesar Bigcas and Richard Militante contributed seven points each.
Semifinals are slated today with University of St. La Salle (USLS) vs. Team Kenn (15-and-under) at 12:30 p.m., Bacolod Tay Tung vs. Talisay Sharks (15-and-under) at 2:00 p.m., USLS vs. Notre Dame (17-and-under) at 3:30 p.m., and Tay Tung vs. CSA-Bacolod (17-and-under) at 5:00 p.m. The two division’s finals are scheduled on Sunday, August 20./ASC, WDJ
