‘NPA’ killed in weekend encounters

An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) died in a series of encounters in Negros Oriental’s Guihulngan City and Negros Occidental’s Moises Padilla town over the weekend.

The Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB) said they had engaged with eight NPA members in a 10-minute encounter in Sitio Leong in Guihulngan’s Barangay Imelda at around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5.

The 62IB recovered a .45 caliber pistol with magazines, serviceable ammunition, and two backpacks with personal belongings from the encounter site.

The Army conducted pursuit operations and encountered three fleeing NPA members at Sitio Cansimba in Moises Padilla’s Barangay Remo around midnight yesterday.

One unidentified alleged NPA member was killed in the three-minute gunfire.

A .38 caliber revolver, hand grenade, and personal belongings were recovered at the site, the 62IB said./WDJ
