F2 Logistics Cargo Movers survived a tough challenge from Cignal HD Spikers for a 25-20, 30-28, 23-25, 25-22 victory and stayed unbeaten in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City on Saturday night, July 1.
Kim Kianna Dy sizzled with 23 points, including 20 attack points and three blocks, while Ivy Lacsina chipped in 13 markers as the Cargo Movers notched their second win in as many games.
From a tight game to start the fourth set, the Cargo Movers created separation from the HD Spikers midway behind a wave of hits aided by Vanie Gandler’s attack error for a 17-13 lead.
The HD Spikers threatened within one at 21-22, but Lacsina scored on cross-court and off-the-block hits. The HD Spikers cut the deficit to 22-24, but a block by Lacsina on Rachel Anne Daquis ended the match.
“We all know Cignal is a strong team so we had to double our efforts pa,” Dy said.
“All the teams really stepped up, so we also had to step up with double efforts. May mga bago din kaming [rookies] sa loob so we had to guide them din,” she added.
Frances Xinia Molina finished with 21 points, while Daquis and Marivic Meneses contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively, as the HD Spikers dropped to a 1-1 win-loss slate.
Cherry Rondina stars anew as Choco Mucho Flying Titans notched their second win in PVL’s mid-season conference with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 sweep over Foton Tornadoes, which dropped to 0-2.
Rondina, who is making a return to indoor volleyball after focusing on beach volleyball since 2020, tallied 19 points on 15 attacks, three blocks and an ace, along with six digs to lead the Flying Titans.
“I’m enjoying it here at Choco Mucho, but I just wanted to contribute,” the former University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses star said.
“I always tell them that we should not stop until we reach 25 [points],” she added.
In the other match, PLDT High Speed Hitters (1-0) bucked the absence of some key players to beat Akari Power Chargers, 25-15, 25-19, 25-22. Aklanon Dell Palomata led the way with 14 points for the High Speed Hitters./ASC, WDJ
