The remains of the 12-year-old girl who drowned in a river in Negros Occidental’s Talisay City on Tuesday, June 27, were recovered by authorities yesterday noon.

Geoffrey Gutierrez, executive assistant of the Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, said the remains of Mae Ann Suplemento were found at Barangay Zone 15’s Hacienda Jose Maria.

Gutierrez said the remains were found wedged among wood debris in the river, three kilometers away from where she originally disappeared.

Suplemento’s remains were positively identified by her mother, Rowela Delagao.

Delagao said her daughter, the fourth of eight siblings, was supposed to graduate from elementary on July 10.

Following the incident, Gutierrez reminded those swimming along the Matab-ang River to be cautious as some areas in the river are deep.

He advised those planning to swim in the river to coordinate with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office to prevent any recurrence of incidents./DGB, WDJ
